We’ve got two hometown shows lined up for August:
First up, we’re looking forward to supporting our friends Slipper for their album release show at Freilichtbühne Weißensee next Wednesday, the 14th.
It’ll be cool, Matching Outfits will also play. We’re all friends and there will be a nice sunset by the lake, so come on down. Bring your bug spray, bring your camera and bring a friend who likes music.
Be sure to check out Slipper’s new album “A tiny rose made out of clay” and pick up a tape if you can—I may be be slightly biased, but all that aside, when I listened to the recorded songs for the first time, on my way to work about a week after they had released them online, I immediately got the very distinctive sensation of having a first-time listen to a classic album.
I’m also looking forward to playing guitar on stage with Slipper for a few of their tunes and to sharing the stage with Linnea from Matching Outfits, who will be joining Slipper on keys for I think mostly the same songs as myself.
More reason to celebrate arrives at the end of the month, in the shape of our little concert series The Sunday Matinee‘s 9th birthday, which we have decided to commemorate with a concert weekender of sorts.
Instead of the usual potpourri of hidden and not-so-hidden Berlin underground gems, we’ve decided, somewhat uncharacteristically and against our usual, strictly enforced code of conduct, to book some of our own bands along with some of our friends’.
Among them, of course, are we, ourselves, but also longtime partners in crime such as Nunofyrbeeswax, DJ Dingo Susi or Federica’s new band Supercheri. Simon will spoil us with his tasty Mexican food offerings, like an ambassador—I suppose he is a cultural ambassador of sorts, strictly speaking. And we’ll have fantastic DJs such as our own Adventurous Juan and OG Matinee resident DJ Vomit.
Come join us in the garden on the 24th and 25th of August, we’d love to see you there.
And please light a candle for our Juanito who will have his immigration test on Monday. He’s also looking for new place to live, we’d be very grateful for any leads!
